An early stainless steel Omega dress watch. A stunning Art Deco period time only dress watch presented in superb original condition. This is a rare reference with an unusual case, dial and handset. The very clean design silver dial has a classic Roman numeral layout with the 'VI' interrupted by the concentric circle filled subsidiary second hand sub dial. The silver hands are a very traditional design, in a 'plume' or even a 'syringe' design. The case design itself is very unusual. It is a classic round case, but the lugs appear to almost be soldered on. They are not, instead they are built out from the sides of the case. The case very much appears to be in superb condition throughout, perhaps having been lightly polished, but possibly not, as the lug holes appear flat and crisp. The case back is likely to have been polished.
The watch is powered by a manual wind Omega fifteen jewel caliber R17.8 flat, rectangular movement, also known as the 300. It is a traditional manually wound movement that was heavily utilised by Omega all the up until about 1961. Once fully wound the power reserve is approximately forty hours.
The movement serial number is how you can date Omega watches. The serial number here: 9,651,XXX which dates the watch from 1939. The condition overall of the watch is excellent. As mentioned prior, the case is excellent throughout. Perhaps it has been lightly polished. The movement is in superb condition. Very clean and keeping great time. The dial is original and unrestored. There are small marks and scratches to the dial, nothing large, or overly distracting. But, it is original, and approaching nearly one hundred years old, the watch is in excellent condition. The watch is also sold with its original signed Omega period box. An elegant dress watch, refined and handsome.
